Applied for Electrician Position at Competitor After Salary Negotiation

I recently had a situation at my job as an electrician where I asked my boss for a raise after two years of service. I felt I deserved a pay increase since I had accumulated enough hours for my bloc 2 certification, but my boss was hesitant to send me for the training until January. When I initially asked for the raise, he said no but mentioned he would see what he could do. After waiting for about three weeks without any updates, I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands and applied for a position at a competitor. I ended up receiving a $2 raise with the new offer. When I informed my boss about my decision, he was clearly upset. I understand that it's important to advocate for myself, but it seems like he was hoping I would just forget about the raise.
