Reflecting on Job Security vs. Higher Pay in Big Tech as a Data Scientist

I’ve been reflecting on the current job market as a Data Scientist, and the recent news about Microsoft offering voluntary exit packages to around 60,000 employees has really made me question the allure of big tech companies like Microsoft, Google, and Netflix. At 26 years old, I’m doing well in my niche field, but I can’t help but think about the potential for better pay and opportunities at these larger firms. However, with layoffs becoming more common and the rapid changes brought by AI, I’m starting to wonder if these companies are really the safe bet they once seemed to be. I’m curious about how others in the tech industry are approaching their careers right now. Would you still consider leaving a stable job for the chance at a higher salary in a big tech company, or are you prioritizing job security over a potential 30-40% pay increase? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
