I recently faced a tough situation where two job offers were rescinded due to my chapter 7 bankruptcy. I had been actively securing interviews, but during the preliminary background checks, I’ve been ghosted multiple times. The bankruptcy stemmed from trying to support my family when I was in a high-paying job, but they took advantage of my help, which ultimately cost me my house and left me in debt. After getting laid off, I struggled to recover. Despite holding an MBA from a reputable university and having completed two tech certifications, my financial history is a significant barrier. So far, I've had two credit unions rescind their offers and four others ghost me after the background checks. Additionally, I am visibly autistic, which adds another layer of difficulty in my job search. I feel overwhelmed and trapped in this situation, as it seems like my life is at a standstill and I can't find a way out.
