I currently live outside of Houston and have been struggling to find a job in a tough market. I’m a certified case manager with a BA in psychology and a master’s in public administration and leadership, but despite my qualifications, I haven’t been able to land interviews for case management, government, or office management roles. Being on unemployment is making me anxious, especially since I've never been without a job before. I’ve been diligently tailoring my resume and cover letter to improve my chances. I’m considering volunteering as a way to enhance my resume, but I’m unsure if it’s still relevant to hiring managers today. I remember that volunteering used to be viewed positively, but with the prevalence of AI in the hiring process, I wonder if it would still make a difference. I’m looking for advice on whether volunteering could give me an edge in today’s job market. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
