I was laid off from USAA last week as part of a large wave of layoffs affecting around 300 employees. This week, another 400 were let go, and it seems like more cuts are expected before the end of November. The total layoffs could reach between 2500 to 3000, with a significant number of those affected being remote workers or staff over the age of 45. It’s disheartening to see that the company is opting to hire new college graduates at lower salaries instead of retaining experienced staff. I also learned that they are letting go of employees who have been with the company for 20+ years to avoid paying retirement benefits. It feels like a systematic approach to cut costs at the expense of loyal employees.
