I’ve been unemployed for about a month and a half, collecting unemployment in New York. Last Friday, I received a job offer from Company A. However, I was also in the final round with Company B, my top choice. I asked Company A for more time to decide, but they refused, so I accepted their offer to avoid the risk of being jobless. I continued with the interview process at Company B and was thrilled to receive an offer from them the following week. I accepted Company B's offer and rescinded my acceptance with Company A. Both jobs have the same start date. Now, I’m about two weeks away from starting at Company B and plan to continue certifying for unemployment until then. One of the certification questions asks if I declined a job offer. Technically, I did rescind my acceptance of Company A’s offer, but only because I accepted another job starting on the same date. I’m unsure if I should answer Yes or No to that question and whether this could jeopardize my benefits. I’ve tried calling the NY Department of Labor for clarification, but their automated system keeps disconnecting me. I’ve heard from others that I should be fine since I accepted a job offer of my choice and turned down Company A because it wasn’t as good as Company B. Still, I’m feeling anxious about the whole situation.
