Applied for a lab position to gain hands-on experience with animals

I’m currently feeling lost in my career journey at 27 years old, still living at home and stuck in a job that I absolutely despise. The physical and mental toll it takes on me is overwhelming. I’ve come to realize that the promise of a college degree leading to job security is largely a myth for my generation. Recently, I applied for a lab position that only required a high school diploma and some lab experience, hoping it would help me gain more hands-on experience with animals. I hold a B.S. in Genetics and have several years of lab experience, yet I was rejected for the position. Despite this setback, I still cling to the hope that I can chase my dreams. My ultimate goal is to work with wild birds, focusing on studying and rehabilitating them. I’m slowly piecing together a plan to reach this dream, but I’m plagued with doubt. If I can’t even secure a basic job, how can I expect to achieve my ideal career? I’m not driven by money; I just want to find fulfillment in my work, especially since I’ll likely be doing it for the next fifty years.
