Frustration with Job Application Status: Under Review for Six Weeks

I applied for a job back in June that seemed like a perfect match for my skills and experience. After submitting my application, it quickly changed to "under review," which I took as a positive sign. However, I waited for six long weeks without any communication—no interview, no rejection, nothing. Just silence. Out of curiosity, I checked the company's careers page yesterday and saw that they had reposted the exact same job. Same title, same responsibilities, same location, but they had lowered the salary by about $8,000. My original application still shows "under review," which is incredibly frustrating. I can't help but wonder if they paused hiring, weren't satisfied with the initial applicants, or just decided they could find someone willing to work for less. At this point, I'd almost prefer a straightforward rejection rather than being stuck in this limbo while they quietly look for someone else. Is this kind of situation becoming the norm in job searching?
