I recently found myself sitting by the local lake, trying to find some peace after being laid off from my job. It's been a tough adjustment, feeling discarded and irrelevant, especially since I have people depending on me. The first couple of weeks after the layoff were filled with optimism; I thought I could jump right back into the job market without being picky. I reached out to everyone I knew, hoping for leads, but it turns out many of them are struggling too. I even tried contacting people I didn't know, but that only led to silence. After seven weeks of no responses, I experienced several panic attacks. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse, I started hearing from recruiters and staffing companies, which initially relieved some of my fears. However, my experience with them has been disheartening. I even had a video interview with an AI, which was grueling and left me feeling more exhausted than before. Now, my family keeps asking if I've heard back from anyone, and I have to keep discouraging them, which is draining. I know my worth; I'm strong, intelligent, and disciplined, but I feel stuck in this market, especially at 55+. I'm trying to find ways to cope, like doing power yoga, even when I'm not in the mood. I also find some solace in lying in the sun and typing out my feelings. I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has found ways to stay positive during this challenging time.
