I’m 25 and have never had a job due to struggles with my mental health and other issues that prevented me from completing my education. For the past year since graduation, I’ve been searching for a job but have only managed to get three interviews. People around me suggest I lie on my resume about past experience, but I feel uncomfortable doing that. I have some volunteer experience and have managed online groups, but I’m unsure how to present this effectively without misrepresenting myself. This job search is taking a toll on me mentally, and I’m starting to feel hopeless. Should I consider lying about my experience, or is there a way to present my volunteer work as legitimate experience? I really want to be honest but also need to find a job.
