Navigating a Tough Decision After 15 Years: Re-interview or Accept Severance?

Today, I faced a tough decision regarding my future at a company I've worked for over 15 years. Recently, we were acquired by a major competitor, and HR has put me in a difficult position. They’ve given me a deadline to either re-interview for my current role or accept a severance package of 30 weeks. If I choose to stay, I would have to continue working until summer of 2027, but I'm skeptical about the stability of my position given the acquiring company's history of layoffs and cost-cutting measures. My direct boss just resigned, leaving me as one of the only people with historical knowledge of our legacy systems, which adds to my uncertainty. I feel like staying might be a trap where I would transition workflows only to face potential layoffs later on, especially since I would lose my tenure and leverage. I'm considering declining the re-interview, but I'm worried about how that might be perceived. Is 30 weeks of severance fair after 15 years in a senior role? I’m also contemplating asking for health insurance coverage during the severance period due to my mental health needs. This is all new territory for me, and I'm looking for any advice or insights on how to navigate this situation.
