Navigating a Toxic Work Environment as a Billing Assistant in the Bronx

I’ve been working as a billing assistant at a small agency in the Bronx for about a year. Recently, the agency has grown into a larger center for children, and I’ve become the most experienced employee since many of my colleagues have either quit or been fired. I’ve taken on the role of training new employees, but the work environment has become increasingly uncomfortable. My boss is unprofessional, often asking me to handle personal assistant tasks and constantly seeking gossip about the staff. He recently hired two new girls and frequently asks for my opinions on their performance, which makes me uneasy. I feel like I’m being put in a position where I could be responsible for someone losing their job, so I’ve been giving vague feedback. I suspect my boss has checked my LinkedIn profile, as he seems to be scrutinizing my role. The work culture here is toxic; I’ve been asked to do suspicious tasks, like getting fingerprints taken under false pretenses and contacting parents about therapy options when I shouldn’t be. My boss has a history of not paying therapists who quit, and I’ve seen numerous letters from former employees expressing their frustrations with his management style. Despite all this, I stayed because I didn’t have another job lined up, but now I have two job offers. I’m contemplating whether to give my two weeks’ notice or to leave abruptly like a new employee did recently. I’m worried that if I give notice, my boss might become resentful, especially since I’m the only Spanish speaker and it would take a month to train someone else. However, I know I can be replaced. I just want to ensure I get my last paycheck without any issues. Any advice on how to handle this situation would be appreciated.
