I started my role as a graduate engineer at a company in early September, and I'm feeling a bit lost. Since joining, I haven't been given enough substantial work, which is frustrating because I thrive on challenges and want to build a solid career. I've noticed that my fellow graduates seem to be much busier and engaged with their projects, while my only point of contact for work is my line manager. He’s a nice guy, but since we work in different offices, I often find myself waiting for him to assign me tasks, and it feels like he doesn't fully know how to utilize me. Additionally, I'm concerned about my salary, which seems a bit below my expectations. Recently, I saw an internal job posting for an engineering position that aligns perfectly with my studies, and I'm tempted to apply. However, I have only been with the company for less than two months, and I worry about how my line manager would react. I don't want to go over his head, and I fear it might look bad to switch roles so soon after starting. I was unaware that there were other options available when I applied; I thought the graduate program was the only route for new engineers. I'm reaching out for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Should I apply for the new position, or would it be better to try and make the most of my current role?
