Navigating uncertainty as a new medical assistant in a psychiatry practice

I started my new full-time role as a medical assistant at a private psychiatry practice on September 28, and I'm already feeling uncertain about my future here. In just three weeks, three employees have been let go, which has left me questioning the stability of the practice and whether I should start looking for another job. When I joined, I was excited because psychiatry is a field I'm passionate about, and I saw this as a great opportunity to gain clinical experience while working towards my MA certification. The environment has generally been relaxed, and my coworkers have been kind, but the recent layoffs are making me anxious. Here's a brief timeline of the departures: - On my first day, a part-time MA who had been there since January was let go, possibly due to staffing decisions with my hiring. - On October 8, I learned that a colleague, Matthew, who had been there since August, was also let go. He was being trained for treatments and seemed to be well-liked, so his departure was unexpected. - Most recently, the new director of operations, Lucy, who started on October 6, was let go just two weeks later. She had been proactive in her role, and her sudden departure surprised everyone. Despite the doctor's composed demeanor and professionalism, I'm becoming increasingly anxious about making mistakes. I worry that one wrong move could lead to my own dismissal. While I haven't been given any indication that my job is at risk, the frequency of these layoffs is unsettling. We also handle various administrative tasks alongside our clinical responsibilities, which I understand is common in small practices. I want to ensure I'm gaining meaningful clinical experience, but I also need to maintain financial stability and ideally stay for a year to work towards my certification. I’m at a crossroads, and I’m seeking advice from those who have worked in similar environments. Should I start applying for other positions while still employed? How critical is it to stay at one practice for a year for future job prospects and certification? Should I give this workplace more time, or prioritize finding a more stable position? I'm trying to make a practical decision without jumping to conclusions about the situation.
