I recently relocated and took a job that pays significantly less than what I need, but I thought it would be better than being unemployed while settling into my new apartment. I've been here for two weeks, and I'm already considering quitting. The earning potential seems bleak; nearly three-quarters of the department haven't met the 'average' goals discussed during the interview, which are only around $20 an hour. That's barely enough to cover my minimum needs, and the commission pay feels unreliable. On top of that, the workplace culture is incredibly toxic. The conversations I overhear are raunchy and offensive, which makes the environment uncomfortable. The only positives I see are immediate health insurance and some potential for resume building, but there are no 401k or HSA options. I'm seriously debating whether it's worth staying in such a toxic environment for such low pay. I might just quit and do rideshare full-time until I find a better opportunity, even though I know that industry has its own challenges. Regardless, I plan to start my job search as soon as possible.
