Navigating uncertainty after being placed on a Performance Improvement Plan at work

I was placed on a 30-day Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) at my job last week, and I'm feeling really uncertain about my next steps. My company, which recently let go of nearly 300 employees, has been ramping up expectations while micromanaging us more than ever. I've noticed that they're targeting higher-paid employees for PIPs and then replacing them with new hires at lower salaries. I've been actively looking for a new job since this situation started, but I haven't had much luck so far. I'm torn between whether I should quit now or wait to be fired after the PIP period. I think leaving voluntarily might make it harder to find a new job, but on the other hand, being let go might allow me to collect unemployment benefits. I'm based in Los Angeles, and I know that taking a break to regroup could be beneficial, but I also worry about the financial implications. I would really appreciate any advice or thoughts from others who have been in similar situations.
