I recently made the tough decision to quit my job as a field technician in the video gambling industry, effective immediately. I had been in this field for 11 years, with the last 4.5 years spent working for a major manufacturing company, where I repaired and installed slot machines. While I enjoyed my work, the demands of the job took a toll on my work-life balance, with constant travel and last-minute changes. A month ago, I accepted a position with a new company after a promising lunch meeting with the owner, where he outlined a role that seemed perfect for me. He promised 8-hour workdays, a work vehicle, training that would utilize my technical skills without forcing me into money collection, and a home-based schedule. Unfortunately, the reality was far from what was promised. Instead of the expected work vehicle, I've been relying on a co-worker for rides to the warehouse, which is over an hour away. My days have been filled with money collections and chaotic scheduling rather than the technical work I was looking forward to. The ticket system they mentioned is often ignored in favor of last-minute demands from the supervisor, leading to long hours and burnout. I haven't had a true day off, and my personal life has suffered as a result. After a month of frustration and feeling misled, I've decided to quit immediately. I plan to inform the owner but won't be working a two-week notice. I have enough savings to support myself for the next several months while I focus on finding a new job. I've already started applying and have a couple of phone interviews lined up. I'm also going to finish studying for my CompTIA certification, as I'm considering a complete career pivot.
