Navigating Emotions After Layoff: From Anxiety to Promotion in Tech

I recently went through a rollercoaster of emotions related to my job. At 23 years old, I found myself facing my first layoff after just two years in software testing, specifically in Performance and API testing. It hit me hard, making me reevaluate my life choices and the importance of financial security. Thankfully, last week, I received some unexpected good news: my layoff was canceled, and I even got promoted! I accepted a new project within my current company, which should be a reason to celebrate. However, despite this positive turn, I can't shake the fear that lingers. Each day at the office, I feel like I'm in survival mode, constantly anxious about my job security. I question whether I truly belong in this industry or if it's only a matter of time before I'm let go again. This experience has shifted my perspective on my future in tech; I no longer see myself as exceptional but rather just average. I work hard, but I don't learn things overnight or stand out in every situation, and it feels like being average isn't enough anymore. I'm at a crossroads, unsure whether I should continue to push myself to prove my worth or start exploring other career paths. The tech industry seems so unstable, and I'm grappling with whether I can thrive in it long-term. Has anyone else experienced this kind of anxiety after a layoff? Does this constant fear ever fade? How do you rebuild your confidence after realizing how fragile your career can be?
