I recently got promoted to an account manager at my landscape maintenance company, and it's been a whirlwind of emotions. My background is in sustainable landscape design, and I've worked various jobs including horticulturist and at a plant nursery. The physical demands of my previous role left me drained, so I was excited about this new position. However, the stress has been overwhelming. I've only been in this role for three weeks, managing 15 accounts now with the expectation to handle up to 90. The clients are emotionally invested in their landscapes, and I often find myself giving slightly incorrect information due to the lack of training. The other account managers are already stretched thin, so there's no one to guide me. I'm the youngest on the team by six years and have no prior managerial experience, which adds to my anxiety. With a coworker going on maternity leave soon, I might have to take over her larger clients, and I'm terrified of not meeting expectations. I love horticulture and working in botanical gardens, but I can't afford to earn just $19/hour. I need a stable salary above $55k/year, but it feels like I'm sacrificing my well-being for a job that is driving me crazy. I'm really at a crossroads and unsure of what my options are.
