I recently faced a dilemma regarding my resume as I prepare to re-enter the workforce after a long time as a grad student. Eight years ago, I worked for a company in another country, but due to visa issues, I was never on their official payroll. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt shortly after I left, and I've lost contact with anyone from there. This has left me with no official proof of my employment, even though I gained valuable skills during that time. I've always included this experience on my resume, but now that I'm starting to apply for jobs, I've noticed that potential employers are questioning my role there. While I haven't encountered any background checks yet, I'm worried about being perceived as a fraud if I can't verify my experience. However, removing this entry would create a significant gap in my employment history. I'm really confused about whether I should keep it on my resume or take it off entirely.
