I recently started my job search after leaving my previous employer due to health issues. It's been about a week or two, and honestly, the experience has been pretty discouraging. I've applied to several positions in my area and managed to secure a few interviews. One company, FedEx, even requested information for a background check, which gives me some hope, but after that, it's been radio silence. I feel like I present myself well in interviews—I'm respectful, professional, and always dress nicely, even in this sweltering heat. I've tried to remain optimistic, but I can't help but wonder if my age (I'm 19) or my background in customer service and food service is holding me back. My mom thinks it might be a gender or race issue, but I'm not sure how to navigate that. It's really disheartening to feel like I'm not making progress and to be living at home when I feel like I should be independent by now.
