I've been in the workforce for about 10 years now, dabbling in various roles, but I'm really looking for a fulfilling career that pays enough to support myself. I have a bachelor's degree in sustainability, which I earned in spring 2020, but my journey since then has been quite challenging. I briefly worked at a non-profit, but it left me feeling unfulfilled, especially when opportunities dried up after COVID hit. Since then, I've taken jobs in retail and most recently as an apartment maintenance technician. While the maintenance job has its perks, I've learned the day-to-day tasks and now find it increasingly boring. I'm seeking a role that allows for some social interaction while still letting me work independently. Ideally, I want something intellectually stimulating that involves problem-solving and hands-on mechanical tasks. I've considered pursuing engineering since I know I can handle the math and science, but the cost of another degree is daunting. I also have ADHD, which makes purely cerebral work a bit challenging for me. I've thought about becoming an electrician, as I have some experience and enjoy electrical work. However, I'm currently in the Pacific Northwest, and all the electrical apprenticeships nearby are closed to new apprentices. I'm feeling pretty despondent about my options and would appreciate any advice on career paths or opportunities I might not have considered.
