Excited and apprehensive about a trial week for a job opportunity after initial rejection

I had an interview about a month ago for a position, but unfortunately, I was informed that I didn't get the job because they felt I was too overqualified. However, today, the hiring manager reached out to me with an unexpected opportunity. The candidate they initially chose is no longer a good fit, and she asked if I would still be interested in the role. She offered me a chance to come in on Monday and try the job out for a week to see if it suits me. This is a first for me; I've never encountered a trial period before receiving an official offer. I'm feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension. On one hand, I appreciate the chance to test the waters without any pressure to commit if it doesn't feel right. On the other hand, it feels a bit strange to be working without pay during this trial. I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar experience and what their thoughts are on this approach.
