I'm feeling really frustrated and lost in my current job situation. I've been with my company for just under five years and got promoted about two years in. I've been in my current role for around 2.5 years now. Recently, I hired a replacement who seemed to get all the opportunities I never had, including direct access to C-suite executives. After a year, he changed teams, and there was no one to take over his responsibilities. Despite consistently receiving high performance ratings, it feels like I'm being overlooked for promotions. My replacement, who didn’t meet all his objectives, still managed to get an exceeding expectations rating and has now moved up to a senior manager position without the qualifications or experience. The role wasn’t even posted internally, which is frustrating since I was told there might be a position available for me in that department. I’ve expressed my desire for a promotion, and while I was offered a trial run at managing a lower-level colleague, the manager who promised me this opportunity left the company. Now, I’m not sure what the new manager knows about my situation. Everyone I work with tells me how great I am at my job, but it doesn’t feel like it when I see others advancing ahead of me. I’m seriously considering leaving, but the job market isn’t great right now. My next performance review is coming up, and I’m looking for suggestions on how to navigate this situation. I’m also exploring other job opportunities, but I want to try to secure a promotion or at least a pay raise before making any big decisions.
