I recently gave my two weeks' notice at my job as a school psychologist for a contracting firm that works with a local school. I was hired last year under less than ideal circumstances, stepping in last minute after another psychologist left. I started without a license and have been paid a student's salary since then, with no benefits, no paid vacation, and no sick days. My pay structure is based on the days I work, which means I have to work some weekends and afternoons at home without compensation. This year, I finally got my license and asked for a raise to match the going rate for psychologists in my area, but the CEO said they needed time to consider it and that I likely wouldn't get close to what I asked for. I realized I was accumulating debt just to cover fuel costs to get to work, and after calculating my expenses, I determined that I needed to leave. I submitted my notice and informed the school, which prompted a call from the CEO. They hung up on me after one ring, but the secretary called shortly after, instructing me to come to the office. I'm feeling scared and stressed about the upcoming meeting, but I know I can't accept anything less than what I asked for. Honestly, I'm better off without this job at this point.
