Facing uncertainty after being laid off as a security guard for 13 years

Today, I faced a major life change after being laid off from my job as a security guard at a homeowners association, a position I held for 13 years. The news hit hard, and I’m feeling scared and uncertain about the future. My former general manager assured me that they won’t contest my unemployment benefits, but I know the final decision rests with the EDD. Right now, I have about $3,200 saved up, which is a small comfort. I spoke with my landlord, who kindly offered a couple of months of free rent to help me get back on my feet. Despite this support, I can’t shake the fear of potentially losing my two cats if things get really tough. I’ve been homeless before, and that experience is weighing heavily on my mind. I’m also concerned about the job market in my area; it seems like the only available positions are either manual labor or low-paying part-time jobs. I’m not entirely sure why I’m sharing this, but I guess I’m looking for advice or just some comfort. It’s been overwhelming, but I appreciate the support I’ve received so far, especially compared to my last experience with job loss where I felt completely alone. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with encouragement.
