Let go from my healthcare content writer role after supporting my father through cancer treatment

Today, I was let go from my position as a healthcare content writer, a role I've held remotely for the past year. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until my father was diagnosed with cancer. I took some leaves to support him through his surgery and treatment, but I continued to work as much as I could and kept my management updated on my situation. Just two days ago, they asked about my father's health, and I shared that he was about a third of the way through his treatment, which would continue until September. I had no idea that my honesty would come back to haunt me. Today, I was informed that due to the unpredictable nature of my father's treatment, they couldn't rely on me and had to terminate my employment. I feel devastated. I understand that companies have their own priorities, but it hurts deeply to know that despite my efforts to balance work during such a challenging time, this is how it ended. Right now, I feel lost and unsure of what to do next. I'm overwhelmed and scared about the future. I haven't shared this news with my family yet because I'm afraid of their reaction. My husband's business is struggling, and my income was crucial for us. I can't help but think that my father would be heartbroken to know that his illness was the reason for my job loss. I feel like crying, but I can't even bring myself to do that.
