Seeking advice on leaving a toxic job and handling my boss's reaction

I’m preparing to give my notice soon, and I could really use some encouragement and advice. I currently work at a company where my boss is extremely toxic. He takes everything personally and has a habit of throwing fits when things don’t go his way. Right now, I’m handling all the complex projects alongside one other senior member, but my boss has refused to take on any of them due to his inability to get along with the relevant stakeholders. He also won’t let us pass these projects to anyone else. The other senior member is leaving this week, and even though he’s been here for four years, my boss reacted coldly when he gave his notice. It’s been uncomfortable to say the least. After this senior member decided to leave, my boss offered me a promotion to lead that side of the group, but when I brought up compensation, he got offended. We eventually agreed that he would seek the company’s approval for my promotion, but we’d figure out the compensation later. However, I recently received an offer from a job I interviewed for a while back, and I’ve decided to accept it. It offers better pay, aligns with my interests, and the hiring manager seems much less toxic than my current boss. I plan to give my notice next week, once my background check clears. I’m anticipating my boss will react poorly when I give my notice, especially since he’s already been cold to the other senior member. I can imagine him yelling at me and accusing me of wasting his time with the promotion approval, demanding I stay longer, and pressing for details about where I’m going (which I don’t plan to share). I had hoped to leave on good terms since he’s well connected in our industry, but with the other senior member leaving at the same time, I don’t think that’s possible given my boss’s temperament. I’m looking for any tips on how to handle this situation, especially if my boss lashes out.
