Today, I reflected on my job search journey as a Brazilian woman who moved to the U.S. a year and a half ago. I haven't started actively looking for a job yet because I feel nervous about my English skills. Although I've been studying on my own and taking online courses, I'm still not fluent and can only communicate at a basic level. I hold degrees in Business Administration and Economics and have five years of experience as a financial analyst in Brazil. The thought of working here makes me anxious. I worry about whether I can communicate effectively, if people will understand me, and if employers would even consider hiring someone with my current language skills. I'm curious if others have faced similar challenges. Did you start working before becoming fluent, or did you focus on improving your language skills first? I've heard that some people learn English while working, but I'm unsure how common that is in Atlanta or if there are opportunities for someone with basic English. I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you might have.
