Feeling anxious after a job interview mistake with a fake reference

I recently interviewed for a position that I was really excited about, but I made a huge mistake during the reference check. Instead of providing a legitimate reference, I had a friend pretend to be one of my references. The recruiter reached out to this friend via LinkedIn, but later on, the actual person I intended to use as a reference ended up calling them back. Now, I'm left in the dark about what was said during that conversation, and it's been a few days since the interview without any updates—no rejection, no offer, nothing. I deeply regret my decision to fake a reference and I'm not looking for validation on that. I'm just trying to figure out what might happen next. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Did the company confront you about it, or did they just ghost you? I'm really anxious about the outcome and trying to prepare for whatever comes next.
