I've been working at a fast food restaurant for about two months now, and I'm starting to feel like my boss doesn't like me at all. From the moment I started in mid-August, she's made me anxious with constant criticism about everything I do—how I clean tables, how I walk, and even how I take orders. It might not sound too serious, but the pressure has made my work environment feel like hell. I dread going in, and there have been times when I've considered just walking out during my shift, but I need the paycheck. Today was particularly rough. I ordered food before my ten-minute break, and when I returned to work, I asked a supervisor if I could use the restroom. After I came back, my boss accused me of overstaying my break, claiming I was gone for 30 minutes instead of the actual 10. She lectured me about using the bathroom during my break and went on to discuss it with my coworkers, making me feel even worse. I sent her a text after my shift to clarify what happened, but she hasn't responded. One of my coworkers suggested that when our boss criticizes us, we should just say 'okay' and not argue back. I've heard that some former employees quit because of her harshness. I really like my coworkers, and the restaurant is conveniently close to home, but I can't shake the feeling that my boss might fire me one day. I've been out of work for three years prior to this job, and it feels great to finally help my mom with bills and feel productive. However, I'm constantly worried that no matter how hard I try, my boss will always find something to nitpick. I've never been late, and I always take on extra shifts when asked. I just don't know if I should stick it out or start applying for other jobs as my grandma suggested.
