Feeling overwhelmed by layoffs and a toxic work culture at my job

I've been feeling really overwhelmed at my job lately. For the past two years, my company has been on a layoff spree while simultaneously hiring new employees. It feels less like a necessary restructuring and more like a calculated effort to replace older staff members, all while maintaining a polished image. Every month, it seems like there’s a target on two or three employees, and the reasons for their layoffs often feel arbitrary or even fabricated. It’s incredibly stressful for those of us who rely on this job to support our families and manage our finances. The uncertainty of who might be next is weighing heavily on us. To make matters worse, many of our managers are new and seem more focused on appeasing upper management than on providing honest feedback or support to their teams. It’s disheartening to watch colleagues who have dedicated years to the company being treated as if they are disposable. Their contributions are overlooked, and they’re expected to maintain professionalism while being pushed out. I can’t help but wonder when workplace leadership became so detached from basic human decency. This isn’t just about layoffs; it’s about fostering a culture of fear and treating employees like mere numbers. I’m feeling a mix of anger and burnout, but more than anything, I’m genuinely concerned about the impact this has on people. Has anyone else experienced this kind of environment? How do you cope when it feels like everyone is just waiting to be the next target?
