Today, I received the news that I will be laid off from my position as a payment poster at a clinical corporate company. I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant, and the timing couldn't be more challenging. Earlier this week, during a company call, we were informed about an upcoming merger involving our corporate entity and others under a private equity firm. They hinted at potential layoffs, mentioning terms like "severance" and "bonus," which made it clear that changes were on the horizon. When I got the call today, I was devastated. Although they are giving us notice before the merger takes place next year, it doesn't lessen the emotional impact. My husband works at a grocery store, and I am the primary breadwinner for our family. I had planned to return to work after four weeks postpartum, but now I feel lost and empty. I work remotely, which was going to make it easier to manage both my job and caring for our newborn. However, finding another remote job seems daunting, especially with the current job market. I can't help but feel that my income is what keeps our family afloat, and I'm scared I won't find a position that pays as well as this one. I don't know what I'm looking for by sharing this, but I hope that somehow everything will work out in the end.
