Navigating the aftermath of toxic workplace bullying as a developer

I was recently fired from my position as a developer at a tech company after enduring a year of bullying from two managers and two colleagues. It was a toxic environment where I faced a smear campaign, particularly from a female colleague who publicly undermined my work and excluded me from projects. Despite my efforts to maintain a good relationship with the product owner, she managed to sabotage that as well. My manager often belittled me in front of others and encouraged the hostile behavior from my colleague. When layoffs were announced, I felt secure due to my protected status in Germany, but my manager seemed to take pleasure in my anxiety. I reported the bullying to a third party, but nothing was done. I later realized I should have gone directly to HR. My experiences with HR were unsettling; they seemed to enjoy manipulating me, promising promotions that never materialized. After my termination, I regretted not fighting back harder. I took the case to court and eventually received a severance package, but I’m still upset about how everything unfolded. Even after I legally challenged my termination and returned to work, the toxic atmosphere persisted, with my manager trying to be friendly only out of fear of repercussions. Now, I’m unemployed and frustrated that the people who bullied me are still in their positions, using my ideas as their own.
