I've been working at an aerospace company for the past 10 years, earning $83k a year. Recently, I've been feeling undercompensated, especially after dealing with some personal challenges, including surgeries and family health issues. Despite these setbacks, I’ve managed to maintain my position through several rounds of layoffs, which has given me a sense of job security that I really value. My current job offers great benefits, flexible hours, and the ability to work from home three days a week, which allows me to maintain a good work-life balance. However, an opportunity has come up at a startup in the aerospace sector that could potentially offer me a salary increase of up to 40%. The role is quite different from what I currently do, but I believe I have some transferable skills. That said, the startup environment seems incredibly fast-paced and demanding. They expect me to work at a speed three times faster than I currently manage, and I would be fully responsible for any mistakes, unlike my current job where there’s a checking process in place. Additionally, the startup doesn't offer work-from-home options or flexible hours, which is a big shift from my current setup. I've already gone through two interviews with them, and they want me to come in for a technical interview, which I'm feeling anxious about. I recently discovered that I have ADHD and I'm in the process of finding the right medication to help with my focus and memory issues. This adds another layer of concern for me. I’m torn between the allure of a significant salary increase and the risk of losing the security and work-life balance that I currently enjoy. If I take the job and can't keep up, I could end up jobless, especially since I've been applying elsewhere for a year and a half with little success. The thought of moving to a more demanding role at a startup, especially given my current mental health struggles, is causing me a lot of stress. I just don’t know if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
