I recently interviewed for a full-time, permanent position at a museum and went through two rounds of interviews. During the first interview, they confirmed that the role was indeed permanent, offering better pay and union benefits. After the second interview, I received an email inviting me for a second interview specifically for the permanent role. However, after a week of waiting, I was surprised to receive a job offer for a temporary position instead, which comes with lower pay and less favorable terms. I'm feeling frustrated and undervalued, and I don't want to accept a temporary role after being led to believe I was being considered for a permanent one. I'm contemplating how to professionally decline this offer and whether I should explain my reasons for doing so. My instinct tells me to walk away from this situation.
