I was recently laid off from my position and have been given the option to look for another role within the company. A number of my colleagues in the department were also let go, but there's been no clear communication about how many in total. I'm feeling a bit lost on whether I should share this news with my coworkers. I've confided in a few close colleagues, and it seems there are already rumors circulating. I feel embarrassed about the situation, even though my manager has said it's okay to share my status if I choose to. I'm also trying to balance my job search with my current workload, as I need to keep performing well to qualify for my separation package. On one hand, I want to keep things private to avoid feeling inauthentic at work, but on the other hand, I worry that not sharing could limit my chances of getting references or connections that could help me find a new opportunity. I'm also concerned that if I disclose my situation, it might lead to even more work as my colleagues may feel the need to tie up loose ends with me since I hold a significant role. It's a tough decision.
