Seeking advice on reaching out to current employees about job openings

I'm currently on the job hunt and exploring the idea of reaching out to current employees on LinkedIn about open positions. I've noticed that some people are unsure if it's appropriate to message hiring managers, but I'm curious about contacting someone who currently holds the vacancy I'm interested in. They have publicly shared the job posting and their profile is listed on the company's website under the 'Our team' section. I want to know if it's acceptable to message them and what kind of questions would be appropriate to ask. I’m new to this approach and want to make sure I’m being respectful and not overstepping. I’ve heard that since they’ve made themselves visible, it might be okay to reach out. I’m considering asking about the team culture or what the daily responsibilities are like. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
