I recently went through a lengthy interview process for a position that I really wanted. After completing five rounds of interviews, including three on-site and two virtual, I received an email from HR stating that I was selected. They even called me to congratulate me, which felt like a huge win. However, just a few hours later, I got a call from HR saying there had been a mistake—they had misread my name and I was not actually selected for the offer. When I asked which round I was rejected in, she told me it was the last round, which had previously been described as non-eliminatory. Honestly, from the very beginning, I had a nagging feeling that this wasn't the right fit for me, but I still invested a lot of time and effort into the process. This experience has taught me to keep my preparation going, regardless of how promising things may seem.
