Frustrating contract experience with IGO: Early termination and owed days dilemma

I recently had a frustrating experience with a large IGO where I was offered a contract for a role. After being unemployed for a while, I was eager to start and even told them I could begin immediately. However, it took them eight weeks to send me a contract, and when I finally received it, it was just a day before the expected start date. I had prior commitments that week, as I was visiting my sick parents, so I requested to push my start date back by four days. They reluctantly agreed but insisted that I would need to make up those four days at the end of my contract. Fast forward a few months, my contract was initially six months but got extended for another nine. However, they decided to end it three months early. I appreciated the notice they gave me, but then they reminded me about the four extra days I supposedly owed them, even though they were the ones who chose to terminate my contract early. I felt it was unfair to still be held accountable for those days, especially since I had been working hard to prepare for my replacement during my notice period. I didn’t want to create conflict, but I can’t help but feel that this was a jerk move on their part.
