I recently resigned from my job, which I generally love, and now I'm having massive regrets. I work for a company that I really enjoy, and I have great relationships with my clients. The decision to resign came during a tough time as I have an aging, disabled mother who needs more support at home, and I'm currently being tested for the same disease that affects her. This situation has weighed heavily on me, and the stress led to significant inflammation issues that made it hard for me to commit to a full-time schedule. When I resigned, I thought I had to choose between full-time or no time at all. However, after I handed in my resignation, my direct supervisor suggested that part-time might be an option. I was shocked because I didn't realize that was possible. I truly love my job and want to stay, but I didn't think I could manage it sustainably. Now, I feel like I've made a huge mistake by resigning too soon. I've expressed interest in a part-time role, hoping that I could eventually return to full-time once I get my personal life under control. My supervisor and her boss are supportive and want to advocate for me, but the final decision rests with their superior, whom I've only met once during my interview. I'm really anxious about how that will turn out. I gave almost a month’s notice to ensure a smooth transition for my clients, as I work with a vulnerable population, and now I'm nearing the end of that notice period without any other job lined up. I feel like I’ve thrown away a good opportunity, and I can’t retract my resignation unless I get approval from the higher-ups. I really wish I had known there could be more flexibility with my hours; I definitely wouldn’t have resigned if I had.
