Reflecting on a Confusing Rejection for Operations Coordinator Role

This week, I had a perplexing experience while interviewing for an operations coordinator position at a mid-sized company. The job description seemed like a perfect fit for my skills and experience, as I have spent the last three years managing scheduling, vendor communications, and reporting, all of which were key components of the role. During the phone interview, the recruiter complimented my resume, saying it was "really clean" and "easy to read," which made me feel great. However, I received a rejection email the next day, which was typical until I read the added note from the recruiter stating that the hiring team felt my resume did not clearly demonstrate enough direct operations experience. This left me confused because my resume highlights my relevant experience prominently. I realized that while I used phrases like "supported scheduling processes" and "assisted with vendor coordination," I might have downplayed my actual responsibilities. I was the one who built the schedules, chased vendors, and created the reports used in meetings. Now, I'm questioning whether my attempt to be polite in my wording made me sound more like an observer rather than someone who actively managed these tasks. Has anyone else faced a similar situation? Should I adjust my resume to be more direct, even if it feels uncomfortable?
