I recently had an interesting experience with a remote sales role at a startup that reached out to me on LinkedIn. As a fresh master's degree graduate with some internship experience, I was initially skeptical when the HR representative contacted me, but after researching the company, I found it to be legitimate and decided to proceed. The first call with the HR lady went well; she was polite and explained that the role was fully remote with compensation that matched my expectations. She mentioned I would have to speak with a junior team member and then the chief revenue officer (CRO). However, the junior team member was busy during our first scheduled call, so we had to reschedule. On the second attempt, the junior guy was again unavailable, but the HR lady connected me with the sales director for my region. This conversation felt more like an informational session than a formal interview, and I felt a good rapport with him. He mentioned that the company was scaling up, which kept everyone busy, but he seemed positive about my fit for the role. After that, I was informed that the director thought our conversation went well, and I would need to speak with the junior guy again. This time, he did join the call, albeit late. The interview felt quite different; he was less expressive and it felt more like a routine Q&A. However, he did seem to agree with my responses and mentioned he would follow up with the director about my interview. I’ve been feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety since then. The junior guy's comment about following up gave me hope, but the lack of response from the HR lady after my follow-up email has left me uncertain. I’m not sure if I need another interview with the CRO or if the sales director's interview suffices. I really want this job, but I’m anxious about how many other candidates are in the running and what the next steps will be. I feel like I did my best in the interviews, but the waiting is nerve-wracking.
