I was recently terminated from my job in Oregon after 10 years of service due to what they called "attendance variances," which I think is just a fancy way of saying I was late too many times. My final tardy was due to my truck unexpectedly dying on me, which I believe should count as a vehicular emergency. I usually live close enough to work that I can walk, but this day I had planned to drive to pick up my son from school right after my shift. I ended up being 9 minutes late after speed walking to work. They didn’t fire me immediately, but a month later, I was called in and told to hand over my badge before I even clocked in. Now, I'm appealing my termination and the denial of my unemployment benefits. The unemployment department claimed I committed "misconduct" because of my tardiness, which feels incredibly unfair given my long history and dedication to the company. I also have ADHD, which might play a role in how I manage time and responsibilities. I'm really struggling with the emotional toll this has taken on me. I'm not sure how likely I am to win the appeal, but I’m determined to fight it. It’s been two months since I lost my job, and I’m looking for any advice on how to navigate this process without making it worse.
