Reflections on a challenging entry-level interview experience at a software company

I recently went through an interview process for an entry-level role at a software company. During the final round, the team lead was refreshingly honest but also a bit concerning. He mentioned that he was "stretched thin" and emphasized that while they were building software, they weren’t saving lives. This made me wonder about the work environment. The interview included a case study where I had only 30 minutes to prepare and then present for 10 minutes. The lead's expectations were clear: he wanted me to avoid asking obvious questions and to utilize internal resources first. He also encouraged me to be assertive and not shy away from challenging engineers when necessary. A few weeks later, I received an automated rejection, which left me reflecting on whether I had dodged a bullet in terms of a potentially high-pressure, burnout-inducing environment or if this was just a case of honest leadership. Was the intensity of the prep time too much for an entry-level position?
