Key insights from my job search journey: networking and managing expectations

As I reflect on my recent job search experience, I realize there are several insights I wish I had known before diving in. One major takeaway is that not all job application tips are created equal; some advice seemed crucial at first but ended up being less impactful than I thought. For instance, I initially focused heavily on tailoring my resume for every application, but I found that a well-crafted, general resume often sufficed. On the other hand, I underestimated the importance of networking. Connecting with former colleagues and industry professionals opened doors that applications alone couldn't. Additionally, I wish someone had emphasized the emotional toll of waiting for responses. Learning to manage that anxiety would have made the process feel less overwhelming. Overall, the job search is a learning curve, and having these insights earlier would have made my journey smoother.
