I had an interview scheduled today at 9am EST for a Senior Software Engineer position with a Defense Contractor. I confirmed the time multiple times and adjusted my work schedule accordingly, as I work at a hospital and need to manage my time carefully. I reserved an office, opened my laptop, and waited for the call. After 30 minutes with no communication, I decided to close everything and return to my duties. At 10:45am, the employer finally called to inform me that there was a scheduling conflict and they had double-booked interviews. They offered to reschedule me for Thursday at 1pm EST. I expressed my frustration, explaining that their mistake cost me my entire lunch break and that it was unprofessional, especially for a government contractor. I asked if they would have treated me the same way if I had missed the interview without notice. The employer replied that it was different because I was the one seeking employment. I pushed back, emphasizing that my time is also valuable and questioned the impression it left about their professionalism. In the end, I agreed to the rescheduled interview on Thursday, but I doubt it will go anywhere after this experience.
