I’m currently feeling trapped in my job, which has become my personal hell. I’ve been working in this position for 6 years, and it’s taking a toll on my mental and physical health, as well as my relationship with my wife. The pay is low, the hours are unpredictable, and I often find myself stuck at work longer than expected. I’ve realized that this job only provides just enough to cover my basic needs, and it feels like a never-ending cycle of suffering. Every time there’s a work training session, we go around the room sharing our names and how long we’ve been with the company. I dread this moment because it reminds me of the years I’ve wasted here. I’ve been applying for new jobs since I started, but most positions I’m interested in require qualifications I don’t have, and I’ve only managed to secure two interviews. I attended college for over three years but had to drop out due to financial issues, and I’ve never been able to return. I even tried an online college, spending nearly $3,000 on applications and assessments, only to find out I’d be starting from scratch. I’ve also sought help from a government-funded career counseling service, but the options they presented, like a two-year apprenticeship, don’t seem appealing given my current situation. I’m desperate for a way out and need to explore new avenues quickly. I’m open to suggestions on how to transition into a different line of work without the means for a degree. I’ve heard that starting to do what I want in my current job or in my evenings might be a reliable path, but I’m unsure how to implement that effectively.
