I recently started a new job and got hired on the spot, which raised some red flags for me. I didn’t have to provide my ID, Social Security number, or direct deposit information until just yesterday, even though I’ve been working for over two weeks. I was really worried about how I would get paid since payday is coming up this Friday. The HR person mentioned that they usually collect this information on the first day, but she had some family issues and there were many new hires, so they decided to cut me a check for this pay period. She also told me that this check wouldn’t be taxed, which is confusing because I filled out my tax forms. I’m concerned about whether I’ll owe taxes later on. It all feels a bit shady, and I’m not sure what to make of it.

I started my new job at a local retail store a week ago, and I'm feeling a bit anxious about the payroll process. When I started, they asked me to bring my ID and Social Security card, but the payroll person hasn't come in yet to collect those documents from me or the other new hire. I'm worried that not having my ID on file might cause issues when it comes time for me to get paid. I'm planning to check in with HR on my next shift to see if I can resolve this before payday.
