The New York Department of Labor received a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification “WARN” from EmblemHealth in October 2021. The letter was to notify of an impending layoff scheduled to begin on or around October 15, 2021.

EmblemHealth, headquartered in New York City, is America’s largest nonprofit health insurance provider, thanks to a 2006 Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York “HIP” and Group Health Incorporated “GHI”. The company reportedly has over 3 million customers in the NYC Tri-State area, according to the official website.

The reason for the layoff, as stated in the WARN is “economic”.

Impacted workers are represented by Local 153 OPEIU, Office & Professional Employees International Union.

Employee separations were scheduled to begin on or around October 15, 2021, or within 14 days following that date.
